about

SPT stands for Seenplatte Tunnel. The word pair loosely translates from German to mean "Lakeland Tunnel" and it
references ice tunnels which form underneath Antarctica's Schirmacher Oasis. The ice sheet melts during the summer
months and running water erodes surface cracks in the ice into tunnel-sized caverns. The Schirmacher Oasis was studied
for the first SPT relea se titled Expedition I, and subsequent releases have followed this format of numbered "expeditions"
as a way to focus on specific Antarctic landmarks. The goal of the project is for each track to serve as a representation of
what an expedition in the area of the track's title would sound like, and K vitøya (Rework) examines an ice-covered island
in the Arctic Ocean where S.A. Andrée's balloon expedition of 1897 came to a fatal end.
